The woke stuff was a smokescreen for deeper issues. The show looks bad, the acting isn't good, and the writting was stupid. They talked about their message so much so they could say all criticism came from the anti woke crowd. But the show is bad down to the set design and visual effects. They wanted an audience that haven't read the books, or any other books.

The pacing of season 1 was complete garbage. Literally fell asleep 5 minutes into the second to last episode, woke up like 3 minutes before the credits rolled and felt like I missed nothing. That describes almost every episode...

I got into Doctor Who in middle school, even over here in America. And I both agree and disagree with a lot of the points made in this video. The act of casting someone like Gatwa isn’t necessarily a problem, if he can actually act. That’s sort of the main thing you need to do as an actor. I don’t personally believe that the Doctor needs to be a British man as you say, as that doesn’t really make any sense in universe. The Doctor is a “shape shifting alien” as one of those articles put it, so he can be whoever the hell the show runners want him to be. As long as the actor can actually do a good job with the character. Which Gatwa doesn’t seem to be doing. The biggest problem with Doctor Who is the writing. And that’s where it all falls apart. A lot of those articles are correct, the show has always been on some level “progressive” but it’s never been as in-your-face about it before. Like with the anniversary episode with Donna’s daughter, I don’t think anybody would’ve given a shit if the show didn’t literally point at the Doctor and say “well you’re a man so you wouldn’t understand” despite him literally being a woman like a fucking hour ago in-universe. The episodes are written to send messages now, not tell good stories, and that’s where you start losing people. I don’t give a shit if the Doctor, or any of his companions are white, black, asian, gay, straight, trans, whatever, as long as the actors can act and the writers are trying to tell good stories rather than espouse messages of their world views. You’re supposed to entertain people, not preach to them. If I feel like the TV show I watch is trying to lecture me, I’m gonna turn it off, even if I agree with what it’s trying to say, because you’re supposed to be entertainment, not political messaging. I don’t think the show is trying to “erase British culture” I think the writers are terminally online and spend way too much time on Twitter. Hanlon’s Razor: “never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity.” Seems like a perfect fit here. Hopefully someone in a position of authority over at the BBC recognizes the problem and gets some people without brain rot in the studio sooner rather than later. Preferably people who don’t even know what the words “social media” even mean.
